A Note from the Executive Director |
Greetings, I am delighted to be writing to you again after a fun and fulfilling spring and summer at the Healthcare Consortium! From welcoming new members to our Network, Board, and staff to our 25th anniversary of the Children and Adult Rural Transportation Service (CARTS) in early August, the past six months have felt both jam-packed and deeply rewarding. Now, as we transition into the fall, we’re focused on buckling down to the hard work of raising funds to operate another year of CARTS, further building out our structure and team to support new programs, and expanding our network of partners and supporters. It feels like an exciting and hopeful time around here, and you can bet we’ll keep you posted as it all unfolds! THANK YOU for being a valued part of our community and for staying abreast of all that’s happening at the HC! All the best, Claire Parde Executive Director |

— Celebrating 25 Years of CARTS — |
|
|
On August 1st, the Healthcare Consortium celebrated 25 years of our Children and Adult Rural Transportation Service (CARTS) at Upper Depot Brewery in Hudson, NY. It was an incredible evening as we gathered CARTS riders and drivers, board members, staff, partners, supporters, community leaders, and friends to celebrate this remarkable achievement! Thank you to everyone who joined us for the festivities, with special thanks to Bill Gerlach, from the Home for the Aged, and Greg Mosley, CARTS Driver Extraordinaire, for offering such kind words during the program. As we enter our next 25 years of service, we are more energized than ever to connect you to your care!

— Tobacco Free-Action has a New Home — |
After more than two decades managing Tobacco-Free Action of Columbia and Greene Counties, through which we worked on policies that reduced exposure to secondhand smoke, made tobacco products less visible and accessible, and tobacco use more expensive, less convenient and less socially acceptable, the Healthcare Consortium is passing the torch. Effective July 1st, the Tobacco-Free Action Program transitioned to HealthAlliance Hospital, a member of the Westchester Medical Center Health Network, as part of Tobacco-Free Action Communities (TFAC), serving Ulster, Dutchess, Sullivan, and now, Columbia, and Greene Counties, too. We look forward to seeing all this program will continue to achieve at its new home!

The Healthcare Consortium is thrilled to spotlight our new Director of Finance, Greg Pettyjohn. As the Director of Finance, Pettyjohn will play a critically important role in the administration of the agency, with responsibility for overseeing all fiscal functions on behalf of the organization including budgeting, accounting, and reporting to the staff, funders, and Board. He is currently working and learning alongside our longtime Director of Finance, John Ray, in preparation for John's retirement later this year. |
|
|
Upon his start, Pettyjohn shared:
Before applying, I was already familiar with the CARTS program, and I really admired it — my grandmother was an avid and long-time volunteer for Meals-on-Wheels, and I often accompanied her on trips delivering meals to those in need — but when I read The Healthcare Consortium's core value that access to healthcare is a fundamental right of every individual, I was sold. |
| |
|
I've had some serious health problems myself and have been helped by organizations like the Healthcare Consortium, so I thought it was a good opportunity learn more about our healthcare system and, more importantly, give back to those who helped me. I'm grateful I've been given the opportunity to work for such a super organization! |
Pettyjohn began his nonprofit career as a Trustee and Treasurer at the Columbia County Historical Society (CCHS), later transitioning to Director of Finance. He gained valuable experience in nonprofit operations, fundraising, and programming. Additionally, Pettyjohn and Executive Director Lisa Weilbacker implemented a Fiscal Sponsorship for the African American Archive of Columbia County, a crucial program in deepening our understanding of the history of enslaved people in the Hudson Valley. As an organization we are thrilled to have Pettyjohn on our staff. Claire Parde, Executive Director of the Healthcare Consortium, shared: |
“Sometimes, it feels like the Universe provides, and that’s how I feel about Greg joining the team at the HC. We needed a person who could allow our long-serving, indefatigable, and ever-lovable John Ray to retire, but we wanted a person with not just the required finance knowledge and skills, but also the strong sense of purpose that is so essential for all of us who work at the HC. Greg’s got that, and we couldn’t be more grateful. Welcome aboard, Greg!” |
