A Note from the Executive Director |
Greetings, As the year draws to a close, I want to thank you for being part of the circle that surrounds and supports the Healthcare Consortium. Whether you’ve been served by our programs, recommended them to others, attended our events, volunteered in our office, or simply stayed connected through our newsletter and social media, you are a valued member of our community. That community shares the same goal—to help our neighbors, the residents of Columbia and Greene Counties, to get and stay healthy by dismantling the barriers they face when trying to access health and social care services. The staff of the Healthcare Consortium are honored by your trust in us to do the day-to-day, person-by-person work to pursue that goal. As we approach a new year, I know that our shared commitment to that goal won’t waver and I am further heartened to think that your part in our work won’t either. THANK YOU for being a part of the Consortium’s community of clients, partners, and supporters, and BEST WISHES for a happy holiday season and a healthy new year! Warm regards, Claire Parde Executive Director |

The Healthcare Consortium Receives No Shave November Donation from the Sheriff’s Office for the Columbia County Community Cancer Fund |
The Healthcare Consortium is proud to announce a generous donation of $2,575 from the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office, providing support to the Columbia County Community Cancer Fund. Managed by the Healthcare Consortium, the Columbia County Community Cancer Fund allocates 100% of all contributions directly to Columbia County residents undergoing cancer treatment. These funds help cover health-related costs, including health insurance premiums, co-pays, and deductibles, as well as everyday living expenses such as rent, utilities, and heating oil. For many, these expenses become overwhelming when faced with the financial burden of cancer treatment. No matter how it is used, the help is always critically important and very gratefully received. The donation was raised through the Sheriff’s Office’s participation in No-Shave November, a national initiative that encourages participants to forgo shaving to raise awareness and funds for cancer. The initiative highlights the physical and emotional toll cancer takes, particularly the loss of hair during treatment. Participating Sheriff’s Office staff each made personal contributions, as well as a donation from Columbia County Deputy Sheriffs Benevolent Association. Claire Parde, the Executive Director of the Healthcare Consortium, shared that she was “thrilled by this generous donation from the Sheriff’s Office and incredibly grateful for their efforts and support!” |

— Pine Haven Nursing and Rehabilitation Center — |
|
|
Our Network Member Pine Haven Nursing and Rehabilitation Center is a 120-bed skilled nursing facility that has a deep rooted history in Columbia County. While assisting residents to achieve their highest level of care in the least restrictive environment, Pine Haven strives to create a community where everyone feels valued, supported, and empowered. |
| |
|
"Pine Haven strives to maintain a strong presence in the local community, as we understand that our success relies on the cooperation and support of many. As we are located in a very rural area, it is imperative that we have connections developed with other community agencies, emergency service and health care providers. This provides us with the ability to meet the needs of our current and future residents." — Aislinn Smith, Administrator Pine Haven Nursing and Rehabilitation Center
|
Visit Pine Haven Nursing and Rehabilitation Center: Pine Haven, located in Philmont within 5 minutes of the Taconic State Parkway, has made it a priority to invite the community on-site for different family and educational events. They encourage everyone to visit the facility to see the difference between Pine Haven and other nursing homes. It is their hope that everyone feels comfortable and enjoys spending time in our home. Their annual family events are open to the public and include an Easter Egg Hunt in the spring and a Halloween Safe Trick or Treating Event in Fall. In addition, they are looking forward to hosting educational events for the public on topics including, but not limited to advanced directives, fall prevention techniques, and ways to advocate for your family member in the healthcare system. More information on these events and more are posted regularly on their Facebook page. You can also visit their website at www.pinehavencarecenter.com.

The Healthcare Consortium is thrilled to spotlight John Ray, our Director of Finance, who is retiring this winter after 12 years with the Healthcare Consortium. John started on April 17, 2012 and was drawn to the position because of the people he met at the Consortium and the mission. After meeting our Executive Director Claire Parde, former Deputy Director Gina Armstrong, and the late Karen dePeyster, during his interview, John was confident the Consortium was a good fit for him. Originally hired as the Finance Manager, John was promoted to the Director of Finance earlier this year. Over the past 12 years, John has played a critical role in the Consortium's success. By overseeing all fiscal functions on behalf of the organization, John has worked closely with many members of our staff, board, local and state governments, and more, to ensure that our programs remained up and running. The past few months, John has been training Gregory Pettyjohn to take over role, and we are confident he will excel. |
As an organization we will greatly miss John's presence in the office. Claire Parde, Executive Director of the Healthcare Consortium, shared: |
"John has been at the Consortium nearly as long as I have—it seemed I had barely started before I had the great fortune of meeting him and luring him into a role in our Fiscal Department—so I have hardly had to work here without the benefit of his knowledge and expertise. As a thoughtful, careful, competent steward of the Consortium’s resources, he’s been an indispensable partner to me and a great, great asset to the agency; truly, more credit for our sound financial position and practices are due to him than his humble nature would ever allow him to accept! Often called the “pot stirrer” for his ability to ask a question or offer a perspective that challenges our thinking and provokes debate, he has done this great service with unfailing calm, patience, and kindness. He also has a quirky sense of humor (and taste in ties!) that has been a source of pleasure for us all. It is hard to imagine life at the Consortium continuing without this wonderful colleague, but continue we must, knowing that to respect the man requires that we respect his decision to depart. John goes with that respect, and all our gratitude for not only a job well-done, but for who he is and shared with us. He will be greatly missed, fondly remembered, and always invited to our next potluck!" |
Please join us in wishing John well as he enters this next chapter and thank him for the tremendous service he has provided the Healthcare Consortium, and our community as a whole. |
